Hexham Morrismens 35th Anniversary weekend
20-22 July 2012

The Hexham Morrismen on this occasion opted for a smaller low key celebration for their 35th Anniversary. Together with their sister team The Hexhamshire Lasses the morrismen chose the beautiful Northumbrian village of Etal as their base for the weekend. The village which lies in the valley of the River Till had everything we needed for this celebratory weekend, village hall, pub, tea room, castle and a small area which was made available to us for camping. It even had the right weather! ‘Sunshine at last’

The small community of Etal were entertained by the teams outside the Black Bull pub on Friday night and continued afterwards with more music and singing inside. As Saturday dawned it was obvious that fine weather was going to continue. We began our coast and castles tour in the small town of Wooler where we danced outside the Cheviot Centre. We then moved on to Chillingham Castle where the teams were booked to entertain at a private event. After dancing at the Castle several team members enjoyed a private tour of the castle whilst the others relaxed and ate their picnics. Tearing ourselves away from this beautiful retreat we made our way to the Northumbrian coastal town of Seahouses where we entertained onlookers in the harbour area for the next hour. Then ice creams to finish.
Back at the Village Hall we enjoyed a previously prepared 2 course evening meal and plenty of birthday cake. A Northumbrian evening was held in the village hall at 8pm to which the rest of the village was welcomed. There were various entertainment spots from current and ex team members and a fantastic clog spot from Ian Craig plus a variety of ceilidh dances throughout the evening called by Georgia and Mike. The teams performed again on Sunday afternoon outside the Black Bull pub and the Etal Tea Rooms before packing up and heading home.
